Over the last 4 years Phillip has worked on a number of projects to try and alleviate traffic issues.
109 Tram consultations
Most notably was the 109 tram project. Together with community representatives we worked with VIC Roads to create a solution that would see trams be more accessible and travel faster. For Studley residents, this meant that some stops would be shifted, and that there would be a centre platform. This centre platform option had many advantages and was the unanimously supported by traders, community and council reps. More significantly the implementation of the 109 tram findings would have seen more linkages between the South side of High Street to the North side and would have helped revitalize the south side. This project awaits funding from the State Govt, and it is included in the Kew Junction Structure plan.
Cobden Street
A decade old problem was resolved last Christmas. Cr Healey working with Cobden Street residents and officers worked together to find a solution to the car parking and traffic problem in Cobden Street at a historic public meeting just before Christmas 2007. The challenge was that Cobden Street was never made for cars, parking and two - way traffic. The meeting was well attended and the issues were worked through to the point of putting a solution in place, which has operated well since its inception.
Pakington Street
Residents in the northern end of Pakington Street approached Cr Healey early in 2008 with concerns about the opening of Eastlink and what it would mean to them. In a discussion with residents, Cr Healey supported by officers came up with some suggestions which have been implemented, prior to the opening of Eastlink.
Commuter Parking in residential streets
People like to drive to Studley, park and then catch a tram. The problem with this is for our residents is that their streets become daytime car parks. Cr Healey has supported residents with surveys and the implementation of restrictions to ensure that resident’s streets were no longer commuter car parks.
Kew Gardens
Various measures and trials have been put in place to remove blind spots and slow traffic down on bends. There is more work to be done, and Cr Healey commits to a working group to focus on the traffic problems of Hutchinson drive.
