Clearway Extensions reverted

On Monday evening, 12th of December, Council officers started a month long project to remove the failed and ill-conceived Brumby government extended clearways.

After the change of government, Ted Baillieu changed the first signs in High St Armadale, days after being made Premier.  Vic Roads advised Boroondara Council that it would not be able to commence changing the signs until May 2011.  Boroondara Council officers sought permission from Vic Roads to commence those changes ourselves, immediately.

Starting in the most affected area in Boroondara, Kew Junction, on Monday 12th December, Council staff have worked each evening, changing about 100 signs per night, on the PM Clearway.  In January, officers will commence on the AM clearway.

I thank officers for their foresight and pro-activeness in getting these terrible clearway extensions reverted.  I have received many expressions of thanks and relief from traders and shoppers alike.

Our village shopping centers are at the heart of our communities, they need our support, and we need them.
